Kelvin Meadows

Kelvin and his wife Shelley spent 20 years as pedigreed seed growers as well as owner/operators of a seeding cleaning and export business in Saskatchewan. During this time, Kelvin spent ten years as Director and Chairman of the Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission, an organization he credits with exposing him to the food processing industry. After divesting themselves of the farm in 2008, Kelvin and Shelley moved into value added food processing. Kelvin is currently a major shareholder and Chairman of the Board for Avena Foods, one of the largest dedicated gluten free oat processing facilities in North America. He is also Sales and Project Manager for a family owned recreational property development.

In 2011, Kelvin was awarded a Nuffield Scholarship and over the last two years has travelled internationally researching the factors that contribute to successful farmer owned value chains. This includes understanding farmer/investor relations and expectations, as well as labour, plant capitalization and Board/Management composition, among others.

Kelvin and Shelley were chosen as Saskatchewan’s Outstanding Young Farmers in 1998. Their children, Kirstin and Shae, are both studying business at the University of Saskatchewan.
